His name was Elkan. His death was preventable.
Baby Elkan Daniel-Kabiri was born and died on 1 September. His loss is a tragedy that should never have happened. Despite his mother Joy disclosing her LLETZ history at her very first appointment, the clinical system failed to offer a cervical scan that could have saved him. Joy was sent home multiple times while in distress, her concerns unheard by those entrusted with her care.
Elkan's Light was founded by Joy Chimnoya Kabiri and Daniel Udoeyo to turn this grief into action. As a registered charity (No. 1217011), we are committed to maternal health advocacy, peer support for bereaved parents, and systemic change within the NHS to ensure that LLETZ history is never again overlooked.
